December 2012

Another few months have passed and I have nothing posted, however I do have a few finished projects.  Just have not had the time to get a post on here but will take care of the over the next few weeks.

The month started out sadly, my mother passed away December 1st after almost 3 years of battling cancer.  Sadly it was not the cancer that was the issue, it was, as with most, the side affects of all the treatment.  She went into kidney and cardiac failure.  She was not producing much urine at all and her blood pressure could not be kept stable without massive doses of some pretty toxic medications.

She decided last Saturday at 2:30am she just could not take it any longer.  I, along with so many that loved her, remained by her side until the end.  She wanted to see Christmas, I would say she will see it in vivid color.

One never knows how much you will miss someone until they are gone.   It's true, so very true.

So, anyway, I doubt I will get much accomplished this month as it's almost over and it just started, as well as with 2 toddler roaming the house it's hard to find that "me time" to quilt unless I pack up and leave for the day (or weekend) which is always nice because that means time with friends

Ok I must be blind

Ok I must be blind.  I just tried posting to other dashboards and those irritating boxes that you have to type in to prove you are not a robot still is not working for me.

So to all my blogger friends, I am up to date on reading and admiring but after trying, yet again, to repeatedly type in those "words" just to be told it didn't work is on my ever loving last nerve.  I have been doing this for YEARS with no issues and all of a sudden it does not work?????????

Can you tell my frustrations???????????  I can read the words but it tells me I am not enterint them correctly..............REALLY????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

So I love all the posts.  I love seeing what everyone is up to.  I just can't tell you because the blocks are too strong for some reason.  All I know is I am done trying because I seem to be the only one having the issue.

One UFO Completed...yeah

Most of you know the story about my son's injury Feburary 2010...Super Bowl Sunday and his year and a half long recovery.  He was in and out of the hospital numerous times for infections and numerous surgeries.  During the many, many hours spent there I tried to take a quilt project with me to work on but sometimes, depending on how he was feeling, I needed to be up and out of my chair to tend to him in about 30 seconds, which we all know is not enough time to carefully place needes and pins.

So I took up yarn work again.  I needed something for my hands to do during that time.  Crochet is alot easier to drop at a moments notice.  I started the afghan pictured below.  It was tossed in the closet over the spring and summer because so many other things needed tending to and life got busy.  Things have slowed down so I rescued the project from the closet and it is now completed.  During the time in the hospital my son's girlfriend commented on how pretty it was.  I really had no plans for the completed item so I am thinking it will be a Christmas gift for her.  Money will be tight because of the past year and a half so I need to be smart about gift giving this year.  I think she will love it.

So that means one gift down...yeah!!!!

comments frustration

I see so many lovely items posted by my fellow bloggers.  I am finding it more and more difficult to be able to read those little boxes of letters that they systems prompts you to enter (to prove you are not a robot) or  you cannot post your comment.

Ignored Blog

So my little blog has felt a little ignored lately. Now that I have more free time on my hands it's time to get back into the swing of things.  My son moved out as fast as he moved in, which leaves me with a mess to clean up  but that's ok.  I think I might like my sewing room upstairs, however I do miss the babies!!!  Though I don't miss toys all over the place.  I didn't think I would get attached that fast.
Anyway, moving things around allowed me to take stock of projects I have in the works as well as make the executive decision to toss unwanted projects or better yet, dismantle them.  All items needing sandwiched and quilted are in a stack.  All projects are on containers and on the shelf.  Fabric is a whole other issue.  Not sure what to do with all of it it.  I have available space again in the family room and basement so maybe it will get stored down there???  not sure yet.

All I know is fall will be here soon and I love doing my handquilting at that time so I need to take stock and get things in gear.  I plan to hammer out some UFO's soon.....

UFO Finished

I actually got something done.  Yes me.  This is a UFO from a round robin about 10 years ago.   It has been pieced for some time, Ann Fry did the quilting for me and I finished up the binding last weekend.

Girls Day Results

Last weekend I was blessed with spending an entire day with some very dear friends playing with our fabric and learning how to make a table runner that is just so stinking easy to do and cute too.  However, as I wanted to line mirror image my little chefs as much as possible I ended up loosing about 8-12 inches which shortened it considerable BUT it is still cute as can be!
I also turned a panel of cute quilt sayings into a wall hanging.  I had this bright idea that it would be a lap throw but my eyes were bigger than the fabric wanted to be but it will look cute on the wall.
I am not sure where all the bloggers have gone.  I miss seeing all the post of just thoughts and/or photos of projects completed or in the works.

Rainy Saturday

I have a Saturday to myself.  I am back from a rather much needed time away.  No major plans for the day.  Hunter kept me company last night so after returning him home to mommy and daddy it is time for me to catch up on e-mails and household chores.  I REALLY need to tidy up the basement.  Most of the Christmas stuff was just tossed during such a busy time so now I need to put things back in their respective places.  It also looks like a shelf of things I have boxed up is leaning so that needs to be dealt with.

Some time in the sewing room is also planned.  July always makes me think of Christmas and plans of making gift items runs through my mind.........rarely do they get made but the ideas are there.  Maybe this year??????

July 2012

No, it is not July yet, but tomorrow is July 1st and my grandson's 3rd birthday party.  I cannot believe that child will be 3 years old on Monday!!!  Where does the time go?  I will tell you where it goes, it goes fast.
I finally spent some time in my sewing room today.  I have a weekend pretty much to myself, no major plans and what happens???  A nasty, and I mean nasty cold creeped up on me so I have been pretty much on the couch with a warm quilt and the remote to the TV.  The good thing is that I got caught up on about 30 hours of DVR'd programs.  Bad thing is I don't remember most of what I watched and I did not get the time I wanted in my sewing room.  However, today I feel much better, still have a froggy voice but feeling much better so I did  venture to the dungen.  I actually spent about 2 hours going through stuff just sitting on the floor and in the way.  I did get through most of the things I wanted out of the way.
Now to find a way to organize what I do want to keep.  That seems to be a never ending chore for me.  Makes me wonder if I really need all the books, magazines and gadgets.  If I have not touched them in the past year do I REALLY need them?????????
Seems to be the question of the day.
Today I also finished doing the applique' on my block O quilt.  I will need to purchase batting after vacation, get it sandwiched on in the frame for quilting.

May 2012

WOW has it really been 2 months since I posted?  Returned this past week from a retreat in Amish country and had a BLAST with all the ladies.  Missed a few people that were not there and talked to some gals I have either not met in the past or never made it to their tables to chat.

Spent some time shopping and of course eating.........never a lack of food around there!!!  I always come home with an extra pound or two!!!

I did manage to actually sew a few items and have the most fun laughing with friends, old and new.

I think the time away helped me get my quilting mojo back.  This past year and a half has just put my world in a tailspin but as things are back to normal it's time to get it back into gear.  Lots of UFO's waiting to be completed and new projects started.

The goal I have for this month is 30 minutes a day in the quilt studio (yes that's what I call my mess) to tidy up, organize, slash stash and find things I am sure I have forgotten all about.  I am actually planning on making a list of UFO's and new projects so that I have some kind of an idea what I am working on and the progress I am making.  I have tried to do this on my blog but having it in front of my eyes on paper seems to help me best.  There are so many new things I want to do so I need to tackle the unfinished!!

Sunday Happenings

The spaghetti sauce is simmering.....well when I checked on it it was boiling, now it's simmering :-)
I always make a large batch, will have some for lunches this week, the rest will go in the freezer for a later dinner with friends.......makes dinner less fussy that way!!

Well I did it, I was sweating with Richard Simmons this morning and it was FUN!!  For so long I have been buying and giving away exercise DVD's that I just could not get into.  I LOVE his tapes and plan to get a few more from the library.  Now mind you, I have NO dance rhythm but it was fun and who cares how silly you look when no one is watching.

I spent the better part of the afternoon with the grandbabies so I think instead of venturing to the quilt studio I will watch a movie and work on a baby afghan that needs to be done soon.

Is Spring Here????????

As I sit here typing this and checking out what my fellow bloggers are up to I am enjoying the sun that is shinning in the back windows as well as listening to the birds chirp....YES there are birds outside chirping.

It has been a tough week.  Someone that means the world to me has been having some health issues and their preference is to push people away and deal with it on their own.  It's very sad but you cannot make people think the way you think.  I would think during hard times you would want to pull your friends and family close but I guess some deal better alone.  Sad but nothing you can do but hope they will be ok.

So on to what Spring is bringing for me.  My cousin and I are going to the movies later but until then it's back to the basement for laundry and scrap management.  I never knew how many scraps I had until I started sorting them........boxes full but not nearly the boxes that others I know have.

It's also time to pack for a couple of retreats coming up over the next several weeks.  It will be good to be out and about with so many wonderful ladies.

Spring also means it's time to get moving.  Since my thyroid treatment 2 years ago my weight has skyrocketed out of control and it is time for me to regain control.  So spring will bring loads of food changes and exercise.....yes that nasty word...EXERCISE.  I actually found my old Sweatin' to the Oldies by Richard Simmons...laugh if you will but he sure gets your butt moving and makes it FUN.
My "realistic" goal is 50 pounds off by August 2 so that I can buy myself a beautiful new outfit to celebrate my 51st birthday with a wonderful man that I hope to find between now and then :-)  yeah...so tired of doing life alone.........he must love quilts though!!!!

Sunday Catch Up Day

Hunter just left with daddy so it's time for grandma to head to the sewing room.  I was not sure what project I want to work because the never ending organization is still on my mind.  In light of that I think I will just heat up the iron and work on scrap management.  I have no major plans for the day so the hair is in a sort of pony tail, sweats on on, the DVR is loaded and the teapot is hot........time to sort, iron and cut down some scraps.  What I normally do is make a "kit" when working through the scrap totes so I will need to decide which project I want to kit up next...........what oh what oh wondering minds will it be?

The Cake

This is the peanut butter chocolate cake my son Scott wanted for his birthday last weekend.  WOW was it yummy and rich but I ate some anyway and enjoyed every bite :-)

Spelling Test....

Geeze I thought I could spell but according to the last post title I cannot :-)
Anyway, my machine would not fit in the new roll cart (generously donated by my brother) but it does hold all the little stuff I normally cart along like pins, extention cords, lights, rulers....ya know...all the "gadgets" a quilter needs....or any other crafter for that matter.

Currently is it a rain/snow mix outside which means a good day to stay inside.  I have a good friend visiting around the noon hour.  Afterwards I may venture to the quilt studio and later a trip to the hospital to visit my buddy.

Rolling tool cart for ogranization

Well I am hoping 2012 will bring plenty of organizing on my part.  This past year left me with little time to play in what I call my "quilt studio" ,let alone keep it clean and tidy. Seems I tossed alot of the "I don't want to deal with this right now" items in there.  I have before photos that I will post when I get over the embarassment of how it looks right now!!

My brother felt the rolling cart below no longer suited his needs so we both felt it just might suit mine.  I am on the never ending search for ways to make traveling with my machine and projects easier.

So off to the basement I go today. My goal is that the machine will fit into one of the two containers.
